Eid ul Fitr 2022

Eid ul Fitr 2022: Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر meaning “day of breaking the fast”) is one of the two biggest religious festivals in Islam. The second is Eid-ul-Azha. In religious terms, it has also been described as iaomul zayez (meaning: the day of reward). After a long month of fasting or fasting, Muslims observe this day with great joy, including religious duties.

Eid is a day when people gather and the day comes back, again and again, every year. It is derived from the Arabic word ‘ginger yaudu’. Again, many say that it is derived from the Arabic word ‘adat‘ or habit. Because people are accustomed to celebrating Eid. Whatever it is, since this day comes back again and again and Muslims enjoy following the instructions of their Lord on this day, it has been named Eid.

Although Eid has multiple meanings, most people in our country are happy to understand it as Eid. This happy Eid comes to us twice a year. One we call Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Fitr, and the other we call Eid-ul-Azha or Eid-ul-Adha. Eid-ul-Fitr is associated with attaining taqwa and experiencing hunger pangs by observing a full month of fasting in the month of Ramadan.

How many hundred yojana desert paraye go,
How many eyes on how many shelves – streams go,
Eid came after years!
(Kazi Nazrul Islam)

History of Eid-ul-Fitr

The people of Medina used to observe two festivals called ‘Nowroz‘ in the autumn full moon and ‘Meherjan‘ in the spring full moon from the pre-Islamic era. Which was incompatible with Islam. It is narrated on the authority of Khadimul Rasool Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: What are these two days? The Companions replied, “In the age of ignorance, we used to play or rejoice in these two days.” Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Allaah has given you two better days to express your happiness, instead of the above two days. ‘ Since then, two Eid ceremonies have been celebrated in Islamic law.

Eid introduction

The month of Sawal arrives on the first day of the tenth lunar year after the holy month of Ramadan, the most glorious and rewarding month. The curved moon of Sawal carries a bunch of slogans of the joyous festival of the believing Muslims
Eid Eid Eid!
Hey! Happy Eid!
You say you will come
No sleep in the eyes.

In other words, after a long month of holy fasting, on the first day of Shawwal, the festival that the framer of Islamic law has fixed for the Muslims is Eid-ul-Fitr. In the words of our national poet Nazrul, it is said, “Happy Eid at the end of that Ramadan fast.” The festival that is celebrated by slaughtering animals on the tenth day of this month is Eid-ul-Adha or Eid-ul-Adha. The declaration of both Eids was issued by Allah (SWT) in the year 2 AH.

Introduction of Eid in the eyes of Islam

Eid is one of the blessings bestowed by Allah on the Muslim Ummah. According to the hadith, ‘When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) arrived in Madinah, the people of Madinah had two days on which they used to play. Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked, what is the significance of these two days? The people of Madinah replied, “We used to play in these two days in the age of ignorance.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Allaah has given you two better days instead of these two. That is – Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fitr. ‘- Sunan Abu Daud: 1134

Date of Eid-ul-Fitr

According to the Hijri calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st day of the month of Shawwal at the end of the month of Ramadan. However, according to this calendar, in no case will the month of Ramadan be longer than 30 days. The beginning of Shawwal is counted at the end of Ramadan, subject to the sighting of the moon. The night before Eid is called in Islamic terminology ‍‍lailatul jaija‌ (meaning: reward night) and in common parlance “moon night”.

The moon of the month of Shawwal, that is, when a new moon is seen at sunset, the next day is Eid, from which the word moon night originates. It is an Islamic rule to declare Eid only after seeing the Eid moon with one’s own eyes. In modern times, the day of Eid is determined mathematically in many countries, but in Bangladesh, the day of Eid is determined according to the decision of the National Moon Sighting Committee based on moon sightings somewhere in the country. If the moon is seen locally in any part of the country, the day of Eid is fixed subject to proper evidence. For Muslims, fasting the entire month of Ramadan before Eid is forbidden, but fasting on the day of Eid is forbidden.

The significance of Eid-ul-Fitr

The significance of Eid-ul-Fitr is immense in many ways. The words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this regard are noteworthy. He said, “When the day of Eid-ul-Fitr comes, Allah Almighty is the one who has fasted; He praised the angels and said, “O my angels, you used to say! What should a worker deserve to do his job perfectly? The angels answered, O Lord! He deserves full remuneration. The angels, my servants have performed the duty directed towards them, and even went out for the Eid (obligatory) prayers while praying.

In this case, I swear by my majesty, glory, high status, and high position, I will definitely answer their prayers. Then Allah declares His servants to be pure; You go back, “I forgave you and turned your common sins into virtue. The Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Then they return (to the house) in a state of forgiveness. ‘

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: On the day of Eid al-Fitr, the angels of Allah come down to the streets and stand in the streets shouting, “Muslims! Hurry to God. He accepts your small acts of worship and bestows innumerable virtues on you. You have been commanded to fast, and you have observed it properly. You have worshiped Allah even while awake at night. So go and take from him the reward of your worship. (Tabarani) In the Hadith Qudsi, Allah says: “Fasting is for me and I will repay it myself.”

Eid is not only joy but also worship. In this connection, Hazrat Abu Umama (R.) said, “Whoever worships on the night of Eid with faith and for the sake of reward, his heart will be free from the horrors of Resurrection.” It is narrated by Muaz bin Jabal (R.). Heaven is obligatory for one who worships for five nights. The nights are the night of the eighth, ninth, and tenth of the month of Jilhaj, the night of Eid-ul-Fitr, and the night of the fifteenth of Shaban, that is, Shabe Baraat.

Things to do on the day of Eid

Performing Fajr prayers in congregation

The day should start by performing Fajr prayers in the morning on the day of Eid. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that if they had known what is between the Asha and Fajr prayers, they would have joined the congregation of these two prayers even if they were crawling. -Sahih Bukhari and Muslim

Achieve cleanliness and use perfume

It is essential to achieve cleanliness by taking a bath on the day of Eid. Because on this day all the people come together to perform the prayers. It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (RA) that he used to take bath before going to the Eidgah on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. It is narrated in Sahih Sanad from Hazrat Ibn Umar that he used to wear the best clothes on the two days of Eid. -Bayhaki

Imam Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have heard from the scholars that it is mustahabb to use perfume and adornment on every Eid. -Al Mughni: Ibn Kudamah

Ibn al-Qayyum (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to wear the best clothes before going to the Eidgah on both Eids. -Jadul Mayad

On this day all the people gather together, so every Muslim should dress in the best way to express the blessings of Allah to him and to give thanks to Allah.

Walking to Eidgah

Going to Eidgah early to perform Eid prayers. It is Sunnat to go to Eidgah on foot. It has been narrated in a hadith from Hazrat Ali (RA) that he said that it is Sunnah to walk in Idgah. Imam Tirmidhi narrated the hadith and said that the hadith is Hasan. He further said that most of the ulama follow this and men like them to walk in Eidgah, it is mustahabb. And do not board the vehicle without any acceptable reason.

Go one way and come the other way

It is Sunnat to go one way to the Eidgah and return the other way. Narrated by Hazrat Jabir (RA), he said that Prophet Karim (SAW) used to go astray on the day of Eid. –Sahih Bukhari

That is to say, the way he used to go to the Eidgah, he would not come back the other way. This is to greet the people of both the paths and to exchange Eid greetings. –Jadul Mayad

Takbir given

Hadith proves that Hazrat Rasulullah (peace be upon him) used to recite takbeer on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr till he left his house and reached Eidgah. He used to recite takbeer till the end of Eid prayers. When the prayers were over, he would no longer recite the takbeer. Hazrat Ibn Umar (R.) used to recite takbeer aloud till he came to Eidgah on the days of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azhar. He used to recite takbeer in this manner till the arrival of the Imam at Eidgah. Takbeer should be recited from the sunset of the last Ramadan until the end of Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. Especially when you go out for Eidgah and when you are waiting for prayers in Eidgah, recite Takbeer seriously.

To exchange Eid greetings

Greeting each other on the occasion of Eid is a matter permitted by Shariah. These greetings can be exchanged in different sentences. Such as- a. Hafez Ibn Hazar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘It is narrated from Ibn Nafir of Jobay that the companions of Hazrat Rasool Kareem (peace be upon him) used to say to each other on the day of Eid, – Fathul Bari

B. Eid greetings can be exchanged as Eid Mubarak. However, it is better to exchange greetings with the first-mentioned sentence. Because the Companions used to use this sentence and it contains good wishes for each other and prayers to Allah.

Eating before Eid prayers

On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, it is Sunnat to take food before the Eid prayers and on the day of Eid-ul-Azhar, it is Sunnat to eat the meat of the sacrifice after the prayers without eating anything before the Eid prayers.

Narrated by Hazrat Buraida (RA), Prophet Karim (SAW) would not go out without eating on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, and would not eat before the Eid prayers on the day of Eid-ul-Azhar. He used to come back from prayers and eat the meat of the sacrifice. -Ahmed

Performing Eid prayers and listening to sermons

Eid prayers have to be performed with the congregation. Eid prayers are obligatory. After the Eid prayers, the Imam will deliver two sermons. It is obligatory to listen to the sermon.

To pay Fitra

It is a great act of worship to perform Fitra before the Eid prayers. Every adult and minor, men and women, children and adolescents, slaves and free people have to pay Fitra. On behalf of the child and the slave, his master or guardian will pay the fitra.

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) said that Hazrat Rasoolullah (SAW) has made Sadaqatul Fitr obligatory to purify the defects of fasting by obscene and useless words and to provide food to the poor. If it is performed before the Eid prayers, it is considered Fitra and if it is performed after the Eid prayers, it will be a charity like other ordinary gifts.

The teachings of Eid-ul-Fitr

In Islam, no ritual is to be observed in vain or in vain. There is far-reaching education inherent in it. In this way, just as there is joy and worship in Eid-ul-Fitr, there is the great teaching of harmony. Notable here is the commentary of eminent writer Muhammad Manzoor Hossain Khan. “Eid teaches a tasteful and thoughtful culture,” he said. Eid festival teaches punctuality and discipline. The teaching of punctuality can be found in the beginning and end of fasting by looking at the moon, just as the teaching of Iftar and Sehri Eidgah is also taught in punctuality.

In this way, Eid-ul-Fitr brings a bright and beautiful sense of discipline to the life of Muslims. Ramadan is basically a one-month training course. The instructor of this course is Allah Himself and the student is the Muslim Ummah. Its syllabus, rules, and regulations of Ramadan is the attainment of taqwa, and its far-reaching result is the deliberate teaching of taqwa at every step of the way in real life. ”

Eid-ul-Fitr also teaches the unity and strength, peace and progress of Muslims as well as the materiality and spirituality of awakening a sense of brotherhood among Muslims. On Eid-ul-Fitr, the rich pay zakat to the poor before going to Eid-ul-Fitr, a shining example of kindness and compassion.

It has been stated in the voice of the national poet in this way- Islam says, Mora all for all, / I will share happiness and sorrow, all brothers, / There is no right to save. May the food of hunger be yours. On the day of Eid, one learns cleanliness and improved mentality through bathing, wearing new clothes, using perfume etc. In fact, the joy of Eid-ul-Fitr is for whom. Do we really want to implement the significance and teachings of Eid in our lives?

4. Eid is not for the one who rides on the riders, Eid is for the one who has forsaken wickedness.
5. Eid is not for the person for whom the bed has been made, Eid is for the person who has crossed the Pulsirat.

Eid prayers

On the morning of Eid, Muslims worship Allah. According to Islamic law, 2 rak’ats of Eid prayers are offered in the Maidan or in a big mosque with 8 takbeers. The time for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers is after the scheduled time of Fajr prayers. It is obligatory for Muslims to perform these prayers. Although there is a provision by the Imam to give khutbah (Islamic discourse) before the Friday prayers on Friday, in the case of Eid prayers, there is a rule in Islam to give it after the prayers.

According to Islam, it is Sunnat for the imam to deliver the khutbah after the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers; It is obligatory in Islam for the worshiper to listen to it. Usually, after the Eid prayers, the Muslims pray together and hug each other, and exchanged Eid greetings. The special greeting for Eid is “Eid Mubarak”. The biggest Eid congregation in Bangladesh was held at a place called Sholakia in Kishoreganj.

Eid festival

On the morning of Eid, the first formality is to go to perform Eid prayers in new clothes. Eid prayers are for everyone. After the prayers, everyone should be together, to meet. It is customary in almost all countries to accept salami (money given by elders) on the day of Eid. However, it has no religious obligation or ritual. Eid ul Fitr 2022

Semai is the most common food on the day of Eid. And many more kinds of special food are made in the house of rich and poor. Another tradition of this festival is to visit all the houses in the vicinity. And eat something light in every home. This custom is followed by almost everyone in Bangladesh. Eid ul Fitr 2022

Eid-ul-Fitr is the biggest annual festival in Bangladesh and other Muslim-majority countries. On the occasion of Eid in Bangladesh, shopping goes on from evening till midnight throughout the month of Ramadan. Most families buy new clothes during Eid. Newspapers and magazines publish special issues on the occasion of Eid called Eid Sankhya. On the occasion of Eid, the TV channels of Bangladesh broadcast special programs starting from the day of Eid and for the next few days. On the day of Eid, special meals are arranged in every house as much as possible. Semai or other sweet snacks are being prepared on the day of Eid. From the cities of Bangladesh, a lot of people go to their original homes on Eid holidays. Due to this huge crowds can be seen on railways, roads, and waterways during Eid.
There is also an opportunity to meet relatives and neighbors and to inquire about them at Eid gatherings and invitations. In Islam, it is obligatory to maintain the bond of kinship. We forget many of our loved ones because of the busyness of the year. Not all inquiries are taken properly. Everyone gets a chance to get together during the Eid festival. Many working people in our country also get the opportunity to meet and spend time with their parents during the Eid holidays.

We learn from the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to have a little joy in Eid, to play sports, or to enjoy. Ayesha (RA) said one day Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) came to my house. There were two girls singing war songs. They were not singers. Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) rebuked the two girls and said satanic music! In the house of the Prophet! The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Abu Bakr! Let them go Every nation has Eid and happy days. Today is our Eid day. (Sahih Bukhari 952). Eid ul Fitr 2022

In another tradition, Ayesha (RA) said that on the day of Eid, two blacks were playing with shields and spears. I said to the Prophet or the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself asked me, do you want to watch the game of the spear? I said yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made me stand behind him. I put my face on the shoulder of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and watched the game. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, beware! O Bonnie Arfada! (Encouraged or warned any party) (Sahih Bukhari 950). Eid ul Fitr 2022

After a long month of fasting, this leisure and recreation bring endless peace and joy to our lives. A few days became bright with fear of kinship, brotherhood, friendship, and camaraderie. In the dead Ganges of our exhausted life comes the tide of vitality. We can go back to work with new enthusiasm and motivation. Eid ul Fitr 2022
